NOTE: AMDs operating at different operating pressures will have an adverse effect on the operation and can reduce the service life of the nitrogen generator.
Initial Setting of AMDs
Step 1: Step 2: Step 3:
Step 4:
Step 5:
Step 6: Step 7:
Close the valves to all accelerators on the sprinkler systems (if installed).
Systems not being checked - Close the all AMD valves.
System being checked - Verify the AMD fast fill (bypass) valve is closed and the inlet/outlet (regulated) valves are open.
Temporarily set the cut-in (turn-on) pressure of the nitrogen generator to 15 psig (1 bar) below the cut-out (turn-off) pressure of the nitrogen generator. (Use the Nitrogen Generator Pressure Adjustment Procedure in the Maintenance Section of this manual).
Use the flow meter ball valve to relieve gas from nitrogen/air supply line to sprinkler system’s AMD allowing the nitrogen generator to cycle on and off.
System being checked - Adjust the AMD to the predetermined set pressure.
Repeat Steps 4, 5 and 6 for each additional AMD connected to the nitrogen generator.
AMD Operation with Nitrogen Generator - Verification
Step 1: Step 2:
Step 3:
Step 4: Step 5:
Step 6:
Step 7:
Systems not being checked - Close the all AMD valves.
System being checked - Verify the AMD fast fill (bypass) valve is closed and the inlet/outlet (regulated) valves are open.
Set the cut-in (turn-on) pressure of the nitrogen generator to 3-5 psig (.2-.3 bar) below the AMD set pressure. (Use the Nitrogen Generator Pressure Adjustment Procedure in the Maintenance Section of this manual).
Slowly drain 3-5 psi (.2-.3 bar) of pressure out of the sprinkler system.
Use the flow meter ball valve to relieve gas from nitrogen/air supply line to sprinkler system AMDs allowing the nitrogen generator to turn on.
Allow the sprinkler system to fill with nitrogen while monitoring digital display of the pressure transducer in nitrogen generator.
• As pressure increases in sprinkler system and on the pressure transducer digital display
(through the AMD), the pressure increase will be gradual.
• When the sprinkler system operating pressure reaches the AMD set pressure and the
AMD closes:
o The pressure on the sprinkler system air gauge will stop rising
o The pressure on the pressure transducer digital display will increase at a rapid pace
until the nitrogen generator turns off (cut-out pressure).
Compare the pressure indicated on the pressure transducer digital display at the transition (gradual increase to rapid increase) with the pressure indicated on the system air pressure gauges.

NOTE:
The pressure indicated on the pressure transducer digital display at the transition of gradual to rapid increase will be the pressure at which the AMD pressure regulation device is currently set.
